Robin Carnahan, who's been flirting with a bid for governor for a few days, will not make the race, Democratic sources tell Prime Buzz.

"After careful consideration over the past several days, I have made the decision to run for reelection as Secretary of State," Carnahan said in a statement released this evening. "Democrats have a great opportunity to change the direction of our state and refocus on issues that matter to Missouri families. I intend to work to help elect democrats at every level including doing all I can to help Jay Nixon become our next Governor."

Her candidacy had threatened to disrupt Jay Nixon's clear path to the nomination, which he's been seeking since shortly after Gov. Matt Blunt won the 2004 election.

Carnahan had been polling the race, at least based on phone calls to The Star. Presumably, her quick decision suggests that Democratic fat cats were unhappy with her interest.
