Sen. Kit Bond wants to increase money to help homeless veterans.
The Missouri Republican and two Democratic colleagues from New Mexico hope to add an additional $6 million to the $144 million already allocated for a homeless grant program. It would increase the funding to what Congress had previously authorized.
The program helps homeless veterans get off the streets and gain skills and stability. The Department of Veterans Affairs, which operates the program, estimates that 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night and twice that number are homeless during the year.
“Our nation’s veterans are owed more than a blanket and hot meal,” Bond said. “This additional funding will continue the permanent supportive housing strategy that has been proven successful in ending the tragedy of homelessness among so many of our veterans.”
Co-sponsors of the measure with Bond are Democratic Sens. Tom Udall and Jeff Bingaman.

I agree they need more than
I agree they need more than a blanket and a hot meal. They also need health care, which the Reps will not give them. A Rep Senator at this time is holding them hostage and he is a Doctor. Sounds scary to me.Frustrated Taxpayer
