Kansas Rep. Todd Tiahrt’s campaign for the U.S. Senate received the endorsement of Gracia Burnham.
She and her late husband, Martin Burnham, were Kansas missionaries working in the Philippines in 2001 when they were kidnapped by a Muslim separatist group and held for more than a year.
Philippine soldiers rescued them in a raid on the Muslim camp in 2002, but Martin Burnham was killed in the raid.
Tiahrt traveled to the Philippines during the Burnham’s ordeal to try and get them released.
Both he and Rep. Jerry Moran of Kansas are seeking the Republican nomination to the Senate seat being vacated next year by Republican Sen. Sam Brownback.
