UPDATE, 3:00 p.m.: The Los Angeles Times, quoting Glickman today about a Kansas Senate run:
"That's probably not a very realistic option for me, [but] I never rule anything out," he said, noting he'd like to serve in the Senate but would not want to have to raise the millions of dollars needed for a campaign. "We'll see if there's a groundswell from Kansas."
- - - Former Ag Secretary and Kansas congressman Dan Glickman will step down as head of the Motion Picture Association of America in September 2010.
That's when Glickman's contract expires. He earned $1.2 million in 2007, AP reports.
(UPDATE: Glickman wobbled a bit earlier this year when asked if he was thinking about running for the Senate from Kansas in 2010.
Now he's leaving his job just in time for a general election campaign. Glickman v. Moran? Or -- Glickman v. Tiahrt? Hmmm...
And, if he's interested in being governor, Dem Larry Gates just dropped out.. Hmmmm.....
We've got a phone call in.)
Glickman has been the subject of some criticism within the film industry. He followed Jack Valenti, the LBJ-era political pro who maintained a high profile at MPAA.
A spokesperson for MPAA says Glickman will pursue work in the public sector. No comment from him.
