Lots of people love a good conspiracy story.
And then there’s the one about President Obama not actually being born in the U.S. and therefore not a citizen, and not a legitimate chief executive.
It surfaced a year ago during the presidential campaign and has lately been getting a new workout by some elements in the Republican Party, including several Capitol Hill lawmakers.
Some of them are backing legislation that would require all presidential contenders to submit a copy of their birth certificate.
But among Republicans in the local congressional delegations?
Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri doesn’t buy it. Alluding to Obama’s tough Democratic primary fight with Hillary Clinton, he said, “Anybody who has been around politics knows that if there was a real issue the Clinton team would have been on it like a dog on a bone.”
Jason Klindt, a spokesman for Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri, said, “Sam has seen no evidence to believe otherwise. His question is not which nation (Obama) is from, but what planet is he coming from on health care, cap and trade and taxes.”
In a video posted on the web, Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri seemed to question Obama’s citizenship. A subsequent video showed that Blunt had said, “I don’t have any reason not to believe” that the president was not a citizen.
Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas said: “I know there are a lot of patriotic Americans who are deeply concerned about this, but I am convinced that President Obama is a natural born citizen of the United States; additionally his mother and her parents were born in Kansas.”
Through their spokesmen, three other Kansas Republicans agreed: Sen. Pat Roberts and Reps. Lynn Jenkins and Todd Tiahrt. An aide to Rep. Jerry Moran of Kansas did not respond.

Since we're doing polls...
Jason Klindt gets my vote. Jason, yo da man!
