Sarah SteelmanSarah Steelman                                                                              Sarah Steelman continues to flirt with a U.S. Senate race next year.

Several outlets are reporting that the former Missouri state treasurer is on the brink of forming an exploratory committee.

That's the step you've got to take to start raising money.

Other sources tell Prime Buzz that she has a campaign manager lined up.

A candidacy, of course, means an intra-party clash next summer with Congressman Roy Blunt. The winner runs up against Democrat Robin Carnahan in November.

Steelman told Roll Call that she was in no hurry to make a move.

"I am still looking at it," Steelman said. "I know everybody is in a big hurry but I have my own time frame. I’m very serious about it."

In the Roll Call piece, she took a jab at Blunt for his  first-quarter fundraising totals. Carnahan nearly doubled him up in dollars raised.

"He’s boasted about himself being a great fundraiser so I just assumed he would be as competitive with some of the other races around the country that are similar to this one," Steelman said.

"What I think it is is people saying, ‘Wait a minute, we’re not sure that he’s the right guy for the job,’" she said.
