The anti-abortion group Operation Rescue today released a fundraising letter purportedly written by George Tiller in the hopes of raising money to get Kathleen Sebelius elected Kansas governor in 2002.

In the letter, Tiller writes that he personally donated $200,000 to his PAC, ProKanDo, to defeat Tim Shallenburger, Sebelius' opponent in the 2002 governor's race. Tiller is a Wichita abortion provider and, as one of the few physicians to perform late-term abortion in the country, a lighting rod in the contentious abortion debate.

OR is citing the letter as further evidence of Sebelius' ties to Tiller as she awaits Senate confirmation to head the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.

The letter never mentions Sebelius, but it clearly opposes Shallenburger.

Sebelius was criticized for not revealing to Senators the extent of Tiller's campaign contributions to her campaign. In response to questions from a Senate committee, Sebelius wrote that she received $12,450 from Tiller. But state records indicate her Democratic PAC received some $23,000 more from Tiller.

This fundraising letter, however, was for Tiller's PAC. So even if the money went to hurt Sebelius' opponent, it's not considered a contribution to her campaign.
