Queries and comments have come into The Star newsroom about Kansas City Council members getting free Chiefs and Royals tickets.

The council members get free tickets to the Sprint Center but do not get season passes for free from the Chiefs and Royals. Council members are given the opportunity to purchase Chiefs single-game tickets.

It is customary for the Hunt family to invite each council member to attend a game in the Lamar Hunt suite, for which dressy clothes are required. The Hunt family designates which game a council member is invited to and not all of them are invited to any particular game. (A couple of council districts are usually invited to each game.) The city manager is also invited to the suite each season.

Mayor Mark Funkhouser and daughter Tara Squitiro attended a game in the suite last fall. It is also customary that Kansas City's mayor is invited to David Glass' suite for the Royals home opener.

Members of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority get free tickets to the authority's suite at Arrowhead Stadium. The mayor, council members, state and county legislators can get admitted to the suite but would not have a designated seat from which to view a Chiefs game unless they got one from a sports authority member.
