Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback is questioning whether several of his colleagues are real Catholics.
The senator
Sen. Sam Brownback makes his point in a fundraising letter for a new Washington-based antiabortion group distributed under his signature.
"Real Catholics need a new voice — not the likes of Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi who have campaigned as Catholics while voting to undermine the values that we hold most dear," the undated Brownback letter says.
A story about this appears in the Kansas City-based National Catholic Reporter, and you can read it here.

Calling all "real" Americans
So, we have read on these pages outrage at people who campaign as "African-Americans" or "Irish-Americans" or "Italian-Americans."
I did not know of anyone who has said vote to me because I'm a Catholic-American.
Apparently, I'm wrong.
So, all of those who don't like hyphenated Americans are really, really angry at what Brownback is trying to do, right?
