Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius was in Washington today, but not - she said - for meetings with the Obama administration to talk about a cabinet job.

But in a week when some of the president’s cabinet choices are running into more trouble than a toddler taking the family sedan for a spin, her appearance seemed to be a curious coincidence.

Sebelius was in town to speak to the Blue Green Alliance, a partnership of environmental and labor groups trying to expand the green economy.

Asked afterward about speculation that she could be in line to head the Department of Health and Human Services, the governor said - as she has before - that she has tough budget problems to oversee back home.

She expressed sorrrow that former Sen. Tom Daschle withdrew his nomination as HHS secretary because of tax problems, but said, "I’m going to do whatever I can" to help the president.

And she might have opened the door – slightly.

"I have worked on health care and health care issues most of my career," Sebelius said, adding that it was one of the things "I feel passionate about."
