Rasmussen poll: Support for stimulus bill continues to drop

I dare Kit Bond and the Republicans not to pass this bill.

Does anyone know someone that is not out of a job? The unemployment numbers hit on Friday & they will be spectacularly horrific.

Sorry that Obama & the Dems didn't do a better job of framing it. The Republican party is already dying a slow death. We only need one Republican Senator to make it happen.

And all the Republican party is the "Party of No."

Here's a crisis:
1. 1979-82 -- Inflation, 10.5% - 13.5%
2. Prime Interest Rate peaked at 21.5%
3. 1979-87 -- Unemployment stayed at a plus 7% with a low of 6% in I believe 1986 and peaked at 11% in late 1982.

That's a severe recession and a crisis. If you weren't around or weren't old enough to work then this is your first angst. If people want to freak out, I am certain we can achieve records equal to that or better.

Here's the thing, tgandwin. Yes we are in some dire straights but sometimes doing nothing or doing very little is better than doing too much for the sake of saying you did something.

When you go to your bank account and see that you have 10 bucks, do you go out and spend 50 and expect that to fix the problem?

The only institution that can restart the economy (Hey Teikiatsu have you been reading a newspaper lately about the number of people losing jobs?) is government.

Build roads, fixing schools, making houses weatherproof CREATE jobs and that creates demand for more jobs.

And, if done right, those jobs can make things easier for following generations.

I can't think of a major Federal or state park that was not improved by CCC in the 1930s. We enjoy those parks today.

If we don't pass the stimulus soon, in six months we will be like the 1930s.

And, let's not forget something. According to our Dittoheads, we have the greatest health care system in the world. Well, my stupid Dittohead friends, we have the only health care system in the industrialized world that when people lose their jobs, they lose their health care.

The New Deal kept America in the Depression until WWII, and it was the scale-up in production that improved our economy.

Carter's fiscal ideas led to the Misery Index, gas shortages, etc.

We don't need the government to 'fix' this. They got us where we are right now with their economic tinkering for 'fairness'. When a doctor screws up in treating you, do you go back for a second treatment?

I forgot, Teikiatsu, what private firms developed the atom bomb? put humans on the moon? built the interstate highway system? wiped out polio? funded all of the basic research that allows this communication making it possible for you to reveal how profoundly ignorant you really are?

Yes government had a hand in funding those endeavors but there were private firms or labs contracted out that made each and every one of them possible. In other words government provided money then got out of the way to let the people who actually knew what they were doing get things done.

Beaurocracy did not have anything to do with atomic theory, space flight, materials and construction, immunology, or telecommunications. Or do you seriously believe Al Gore invented the internet?

While we're on the topic of government throwing money at problems, how about embryonic stem cell research, education, alternative energy, car fuel efficiency standards, hunger and poverty, global warming, middle east peace, illegal immigration, war on drugs, social security, health care, ... and the list goes on.

In each of those examples you have polititicians with no real world experience on the subject who think that winning elections make them geniuses and gives them a mandate to tamper. So too with the Economy... these beaurocrats have no idea what they are doing but they want to look like they care and aren't just sitting around looking bored on CSPAN. Sometimes the government backs a winner, but those projects and scientists would have been successful without it. Most times gov't strikes out or creates more trouble than they started with.

Rumors of Obama's demise are greatly exaggerated.

Think back to all of the times Obama was "finished," first with Clinton and then with "maverick" McCain. Now look who won.

I have some faith that Obama:

1. Knows he's screwing up.
2. Is working to fix it.

We're two weeks into a four-year term. It's a little premature for the GOP to declare victory now.

As for the rest of it ... yes, the best thing the government can do is spend money and lots of it ... even if it is for lobsters and condoms. People in those respective fields gotta eat too.
