I think Patterson is so involved in politics to support his medical records company that he makes it a requirement for his employees with promise to be involved in politics so he can further his arm of influence. I always think back to how Patterson and his Mission Hills buddy wanted the soccer project in Jo. County to increase their golden bars - that one got knocked down much to my surprise but stay tuned they are out there to further their interests.

This woman seems to have the right stuff to lead the Kansas Republican Party. Her resume suggests she has a proven record of accomplishment in political campaigns and in business. Managing an organization and getting people elected will be her priority and her resume suggests she is experienced and successful at the two primary tasks at hand.

There is nothing in her past to suggest she would abuse the trust given her in this role. The party leader is more of a servant to the committeemen and women and all the volunteers who give their time and talents to the party. My sister-in law is active in the Kansas Republican party and participated in the Eisenhower Women's series which I believe is the program you are listing in the post. She said Amanda is very professional and she is a person who will unite people.

It looks like the Kansas Republicans are finally coming to their senses with this pick. A young, very intelligent woman who has done a good job keeping her nose clean. Bringing in a business professional might actually result in the Kansas GOP being run like a company- far cry from the status quo.

If Amanda Adkins becomes the state chair, it just means control of the state party by Brownback in his pursuit of the governorship. Simple to understand. Doesn't matter what her credentials are. It's Brownback's pick.

A businesswoman to run the state party, what a concept! It is time that everyone realize that to run the state party you need to run it like a business. Raise the money, recruit the best possible people to run, have a plan to spend the money in the wisest possible manner and run the entire state as one unit rather than a bunch of independent counties. It is time to put our difference aside and unite as one. I for one am tired of having a Democrate for governor!

KUBBNut - I have known Amanda for 16+ years. She had a double major at KU and at one time wanted to become a medical doctor. She completed both majors in the same time many of us would limp through one degree. Yes, Amanda worked for Sam Brownback, as the liaison for the military and Veterans Affairs. Amanda has also worked for GOPAC and served as its chair. Then Congressman David Dwyer of the Northern District of California came looking for Amanda and she worked for him writing legislation. When Senator Sam decided to run for his second term he wisely chose Amanda to manage his campaign. Sam's Democrat opponent was so overwhelmed he dropped out after winning his primary. Sam went on to win that election with 78% of the vote. That is an unheard of number for such a high office. Since then Amanda has been working as a VP for Cerner an in her spare time has given birth to two beautiful children, Dylan and Madison. So she is kind of like the Midwest's answer to Sarah Palin...Amanda is bright, pretty, conservative, and a great organizer. Did I mention she is just your average person in a casual setting but is a true Kansas whirlwind when it comes to getting things done. It is pretty much a no brainer by choosing her. The only way the Republican party can lose on this deal is by not choosing her. Oh, yeah she is also pro-gun but does not hunt or eat moose.

I am in favor of more wingnuts in leadership positions in the GOP.

Last year she was leaning toward a medical career of some sort and now out of the blue she is talking about a political career constantly such as being a campaign manager, etc., etc. - all the things Amanda is doing. Well, this ole grandparent is rolling my eyeballs and thinking how in the Sam Hill did this happen???? My grandaugher will find her nitch I am sure but I'll be in the background saying that's great but I'll also be drumming those basic values of decency, honesty, integrity, ethics, etc. to her. We'll see how all this plays out in the years to come - she would be hard pressed to do much worse than what I see going on every day and perhaps Amanda could be an improvement too - I sure hope so.

Do you think your granddaughter's change of heart had anything to do with the serious attention this year given to Hillary Clinton as prez, and/or the (somewhat) serious attention to Sarah Palin as VP?

I ask because this was, in my view, the major accomplishment of these two women despite their losses: just by being there they normalize the idea of a woman in the job, leading a new generation of girls to think "yeah, I could see myself doing that." That's the first step.

Would that we could get more grade-school girls to think similarly about math...

we will be doing excellent to get her thru KU with every financial aid we can find. I am sure Sarah did NOT inspire her. If anything, I think it was Obama and an outstanding government teacher she had this year to get her interested in politics and of course, me yakking constantly about the lack of values in government may have had an impact and perhaps she thinks she could bring about needed changes. I definitely will leave her career choices to her - just want her to be happy as possible and strive to make a difference for the better. Our young people are our promise of tomorrow as it always has been - we need to love, support them and send them on their way in their walk thru life - it will be a roller coaster ride actually!!!!

Mizzou offers very little to students. The University of Kansas is a superior institution with a very inoffensive history...unlike Missouri.
