The LA Times reports that antiwar groups and other liberal activists are increasingly concerned at signs that Barack Obama's national security team will be dominated by appointees who favored the Iraq invasion and hold hawkish views on other important foreign policy issues.
The activists are uneasy not only about signs that both Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates could be in the Obama Cabinet, but at reports suggesting that several other short-list candidates for top security posts backed the decision to go to war.

Hawks and Pigeons
While Obama walks in the rose garden, he does not wear rose-colored glasses. He must pacify the hawks by sending them soaring on high. They are not like carrier pigeons that you can keep in a cage until they are needed.
It does send the proper message to Al Qaeda who issued loud threats just yesterday. The comment about the dogs eating soldiers is as unsavory as the one that ran today about the children of Iraq being afraid to go to school.
But that is the war of words in the media and it illustrates that Iraq is far from being tamed. Maybe a Guantanamo prisoner release will demonstrate some good will and humanity for both sides of the argument.
