Some of the 17 Republican precinct leaders will get their party voting rights back on appeal, a state GOP official predicted today.
Others who have substantial dollars to Democrats won’t get to vote in party functions for another two years.
Christian Morgan, the state party’s executive director, said the state GOP executive committee will make the final decision on who gets their voting rights back and who will not.
For example, Laura Johnson of Overland Park, a precinct committeewoman, gave money to an independent candidate_ Steve Roberts of Overland Park_ running for the Kansas Board of Education. She and 14 others had to cast provisional or challenged ballots during the voting Monday night for new county GOP officers.
She explained that Roberts was tutoring her children in math and it came time to pay him.
He told her to just write out a check to his campaign rather than paying him directly and she did. It didn’t occur to her at the time she was violating a party rule and has appealed her suspension.
“I think she’s going to be fine,” said Morgan.
He said another precinct leader in Johnson County gave a small donation to Democrat Dolores Furtado, who won a seat in the Kansas House from Johnson County. Morgan said the woman explained that Furtado had been a childhood friend and that the donation was given out of that friendship and not to help Democrats.
Morgan said he believed the executive committee will rule favorably on that appeal.
However, he said a few of the 17 precinct leaders gave substantial amounts of money to Democratic candidates and doubted that those appeals would be successful. He pointed specifically to former state Rep. David Huff of Lenexa and former state Sen. Audrey Langworthy of Prairie Village.
He said the state GOP’s loyalty committee, which made the decision to suspend the voting rights of the 17, didn’t initiate the investigations or complaints.
“They’re not out looking for people,” Morgan said about the five-member loyalty committee.
He said the committee received complaints concerning the 17 that were followed up and action taken. He said other complaints were received about two precinct leaders in Shawnee County and action was taken against them.

Maybe the Chiefs could do this too
If you are a season ticket holder - no fair saying other teams pick better players. No fair saying other teams have better coaches. No fair other teams have smarter plays. No fair other teams ask their fans if they are in better playoff status than they were eight years ago.
Makes about as much sense as trying to mandate adherence to your wilting right wing leadership. But keep on trying to force people how to vote or act you 1st amendment followers you. Especially those of you who teach law. You would think you would hold high that amendment that appears first ....
But I guess not.
