No it is not racist to vote against Obama unless you are voting against him because of his race. And it looks like there are people in SE Mo who will be doing just that. I would hope most readers of this blog are not that ignorant.

The more of this crap we see as this election approaches, the better Barack Obama looks as a candidate and as a man. No I am not blaming John McCain for this ad or the other racist behaviors that have surfaced lately, but he needs to speak out and do so forcefully to discourage this crap. And he has not. He finally said something at a rally on Friday but it was too little and too late.

I think we can compare this to the backlash against Sarah Palin and her family following her nomination as VP. Obama came out almost immediately and said "STOP", which separated him from the trash talk against Palin. And the negativity did lessen. On the other hand, McCain's supporters are becoming worse. There is a video that has gone viral of a man at a rally in PA with a stuffed monkey who has an Obama sticker on its head and the man says the monkey's name is Hussein. A strong statement by McCain and Palin would at least quiet some of their racist supporters. I also find it hard to believe McCain and his staff are not smart enough to know this which leads me to wonder if they approve of the racist behavior. I would hope not but the more time goes on, it is the likeliest conclusion.

I do not believe this type of signage is representative of most Republicans and unaligned conservatives that I know. It is clearly a hateful and despicable representation of a thankfully small number of American thugs who continue to compensate for their own failings by postings such as this.

Let's say someone put up a billboard with a picture of John McCain in a North Vietnamese uniform, holding a gun at a US soldier or a Vietnamese child. In the background, 3 or 4 crashed airplanes.

The message would say something along the lines of McCain betraying his country while he was a POW, crashing planes and murdering Vietnamese kids and/or US troops.

Outrageous? Yes of course it is but perhaps you McCainiacs don't realize that all of those claims were made by Obama supporters during this campaign. And other than crashing planes (which may or may not have been McCain's fault), none of them are true.

The important thing (and the BIG difference between the campaigns) is that those stories about McCain were IMMEDIATELY quashed by the Obama campaign and if any are posted on most left wing or Democratic party blogs, they are deleted and the poster is usually kicked off the blog.

Obama has made it clear from day one that his campaign is to be about issues and not attacking his opponent. McCain has ignored and maybe even tolerated the attacks on Obama by his supporters and now 3 weeks before the election, we have billboards like this and a man bringing a monkey to a Palin rally and people shouting "N____" at a McCain rally and it just goes on and on.

100% of McCain's current ads are attack ads. How about letting us know what he plans to do, how he is planning on putting country first, instead of attacking his opponent.

Here's the deal. You admitted a few weeks ago you had no black friends. So maybe you don't understand their culture or what is offensive to them.

Now I agree with you that it was wrong to link the "rapture right" to this billboard. I am no fan of the rapture right but the ones I know are not racists and would not approve of it. And interestingly enough, I know more African Americans who are rapture right than white folks.

But yes, this billboard is racist for a couple reasons. First it implies that Obama is a Muslim or an Arab and that there is something wrong with that. Muslims are good people and preach tolerance, just as Christians do. They have some whackos in their religion, just as Christians do. But there is really nothing wrong with being a Muslim anymore than there is something wrong with being a Jew or a Christian or a member of any other religion. It is also wrong to imply that there is something sinister about Obama's middle name. My middle name is French, but I am not French and neither are any of my ancestors. My parents just liked the name.

Secondly the facial characteristics in the picture are exaggerated and I believe we all understand why.

Now you have every right to criticize any of us who belittle Sarah Palin or her religion. But that is NOT racism. That is religious discrimination. And it is wrong too. But racism is discrimination based on ethnic group. I don't think we can have an honest discussion about all if this unless we use the correct terminology. Obama opposes same sex marriage. As for gun regulations, he supported the assault weapons ban. And really, unless you own an assault weapon, what would be the problem with that? And as for taxes, Obama has proposed that they be lowered for 95& of Americans.

The billboard is not racist. It does not mention anything about it meaning more terrorism or muslims ruling the world, etc.

Again they have to focus on color, confirm color, and lead one to believe that it could be construed as a badge or incident of slavery. That is pretty much the litmus test for racism, and subsequently a hate crime.

The billboard is wrong. Obama does not support gay marriage, will lower taxes for 95% of Americans and supported the ban on assault weapons. My gun friends tell me this is not a problem since they don't own any assault weapons nor do they plan on obtaining any. I would also say the claim that there will be more abortions is incorrect, since the party's position is to keep abortion safe, legal and RARE. And with sex education that does not emphasize abstinence as the only means of preventing pregnancy, unplanned pregnancies should decrease, which would logically lead to a decrease in abortions.

I tried to be nice but can tell that was not effective.
