McCain/Palin backers: The media is biased against us, so why believe the polls

Not only have the Republican candidates sunk to new lows in the Lee Atwater mode of campaigning, but now the people who come to their rallies have turned into an ignorant rabble.

They scream at the media, call Obama a terrorist and have been racially insulting to a camerman in Florida.

This is truly the lunatic right wing fringe in this country and I'm hoping that at least 51% of our citizens sees it the same way.

I don't understand why somebody like McCain who, at one time, was admired by people on both sides of the debate can have turned into this jerk that incites his most rabid followers - the ones who think Palin is a good thing - to be disrespectful and crude.

We seem to be turning into a country of ignorant yahoos.

I do believe the polls are correct, I do also believe that the media has been biased and favored Obama during these campaigns. Ever since Palin was announced as VP, Obama and the liberals have been attacking her character while heaven forbid someone attack Obama's character. Anyone who can't see that the media is backing Obama isn't blind.

And I am not talking about the special interest media like Rush, Olberman, Beck, etc.. We know what there shows are about, they have an agenda and we know it. I am talking about what is though of as unbias media like NBC, CBS, ABC, newspapers, etc.

Boy do I smell desperation. McCain is letting Palin be the attack dog with her ridiculous attempts to make Obama look like some kind of a radical(God forbid) Muslim terrorist. Her shameless ad hominum attacks are both insulting to me, mere sleazy veiled backdoor racism, and pander to what is wrong in this country when it comes to race relations. While I was interested in Palin at first, I have become completely disgusted by her Rove/Atwater divide and conquer cheap shot campaigning.
She and McShame are a sad relic of past Republican toxic trash propaganda, and this fear mongering is costing them the election.

The tables have turned and now many who called us silly when we complained about media bias in favor of the right are now understanding what it is like to not be able to trust your media.

Following 9/11 the media absolutely refused to consider any other version of events besides the one promoted by the Bush administration. An investigation wasn't even scheduled until the families lobbied Congress and asked for it. Where was our media?

In the lead up to Shock and Awe in 2003, every TV network and our print media promoted a pro-war viewpoint. We now know there were no WMDs and Sadaam had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, yet those stories were not covered in our MSM when they needed to be aired. I hold our media responsible for dropping the ball in the months leading up to the war. And sadly, 4000+ of our American families suffered the most tragic loss of all. So irresponsible and inaccurate reporting has very severe consequences.

There are many other examples. The best thing about this story is that FINALLY there is something the right and the left can agree on - our media sucks.

Remember this about polling.

1. Polling isn't free.

2. Media has to purchase the polling info.

3. If you're a media outlet and you want to improve your viewer base, you're going to need polling that reflects that base.

4. Polling isn't free.

5. And lastly, Polling isn't free. (smile)

...is in favor of some semblence of truth, a reasonable degree of consistancy and an understanding of the concept of objective facts.

Obviously, this will occasionally put them in conflict with those who brazenly lie (Obama wants to teach sex to kindergardeners), shift positions (Pat Robertson & Bob Jones U. not bigoted, this cycle) or ignore scientifically verifiable facts (greenhouse gas & geology/biology).

Bluntly, if you want to teach creationism (other than as a religion tenet similar to the Immaculate Conception),you deserve to be ridiculed because you are either too stupid to be allowed to hold high office (the Flintstones was NOT a documentary!)or are willing to raise a generation of ill-educated children -- and should not be in high office.

The actual problem is that the media are TOO KIND to McCain and Palin. Her ignorance is painful to behold. She lacks the depth expected of a good high school debater. (If she were your debate partner, imagine how you would cringe every time she was subjected to 3 minutes of cross-questioning! My God, Katie Couric sliced her up!) She makes Dan Quayle look like James Madison.

And him? Ambition has robbed him of what honor he had, and age has turned him just plain goofy, choosing a potential VP on a whim & wandering the stage aimlessly during a debate. Pathetic.

Jeetz, my good cherry-picking fact friend, this Zogby poll clearly shows that McCain is going to win.

Every other poll is in the tank for Obama trying to convince "real Americans" that the "Maverick" has lost, right?

And, if only the MSM would do the same hard-hitting investigative work Hannity showed last Sunday night using a rather notorious anti-semite as his main source, McCain would win in a walk.

Fox News had a poll that clearly demonstrated McCain won the last debate. And, didn't Drudge's scientific poll show an overwhelming Palin victory?

As you predicted earlier this year, McCain and the Republicans are going to win in a walk, right?

Polling companies don't make money selling the results of their political polls, they make money selling their consulting services to private industry based on their track record. Your "conclusion" is therefore idiotic.

You posted good news for McCain. This is one more poll that shows Obama can't close the deal. He is still under 50%.

McCain is clearly going to win if he can turn the page away from the economy and talk about what every American worries about: Obama went to a campaign meeting with Bill Ayers.

As every "real" American knows, it isn't important that 1 out of 6 Americans are upside down on their mortgages, their 401 Ks have lost 20% of their value, and many don't have health insurance. None of that is important. It is really, really important that Obama sat on a charity board with Bill Ayers, and Obama might really be a Muslim. Oh, and Sarah Palin can field dress a moose.

Yeap, those are the really important issues is this campaign.

Selling polling services to a private corporation means that they want as close to the truth as they can afford. If you'd ever had any experience in the private sector you might have some inkling that businesses exist to make a profit, not make political statements to please their audience as you seem to fantasize.

McCain and Caribou Barbie must have "The Math" that shows them how they'll win in a landslide. And retake the House and Senate. And most of the statehouses.

Karl Rove crowed about "The Math" that showed a landslide victory for Republicans in 2006. A month later Dems took control of Congress. A few months after that Rove was out a job.

It'll work out about the same this year. Someone is in for a rude awakening.

McCain's last ditch effort failing as the polls indicate. While the economy is collapsing, McCain is making a call for all bigots and hate-mongers to join his parade of slime. He is desperate and it is a personal call to jihad for his campaign. And they are coming out of the woodwork, every right wing nut in the country is answering the call and coming up with the smear and fear garbage that McCain is begging them for. McCain is not a hero or a leader. He displays the same cowardice that he displayed when he ratted on his Keating Five comrades to escape prosecution. At a Florida rally where Palin called Obama a terrorist some one even yelled Kill Him! - shades of the Nazi hate rallies. McCain is bringing great shame on the electoral process and his erratic behavior makes it clear he is not qualified to be president any more than his junkyard dog running mate.

All polls have a stated margin of error, and we can agree or disagree as to how valuable they are at any given point in advance of the elections - there's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip. But I'm frightened by people who dismiss all facts with which they disagree or which they want to wish away. How can you not believe anything the media says, but believe every political lie you hear?

But the margin of error speaks only to the level of mathematical certainty that you've captured the true population mean in your sample, given the size of the sample you took, but also for the exact question you asked ONLY, not the question you THINK you asked. And it assumes you've got, in fact, a genuine certifiable random sample.

It's pretty fuzzy, under the best circumstances. The only rational way to use election polls is to ignore them and do what you were going to do anyway, which, oddly enough, is pretty much what the woman interviewed was going to do, too.

I totally agree that media polls are intentionally deceptive and biased. Data has been "cooked" so that biased writers have something use attack McCain-Palin on behave of Obama.

Voters should ignore the slanted media and rely only on automated facts and figures.
E.g. Google search Palin:Biden (cannot be cooked) is 2200:1
TV tune in for Palin-Biden debate is 70 million. (people didn't tune in to see Biden !!!)

Historians will point to the moment McCain named Palin as his pick as the moment he lost the race. Except for a few bright shining moments he's been in a downward spiral ever since.

During the primaries didn't the polls show that Hillary won this state and the same thing for Obama (usually by a fairly wide margin) only to have the other person win. One state that comes to mind is NH. Just an idea about how acurate the polling is.

Hey buddy, everyone on here loves someone and has lost someone. In fact we've probably all lost many. You don't live in an exclusive world, ladyfinger.

Most of us deal with it. You need to, too. None of us here caused your family difficulties. And none of here can solve them.

I and others have had the same difficulties you have had. I put my trust in God that my family losses found a soft landing.
