The Sam Graves campaign is taking opponent Kay Barnes to task for a satirical article in Camp, a magazine that bills itself as "Kansas City's voice for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and allied communities."
(Note: The magazine says it prefers the word "transgender" to "transexual.")
The piece -- you can read it here -- is written in the voice of Francine, a fictional character.
It refers to Graves' "horse-face wife" and "wild-eyed children."
"This is a new low, even for Kay Barnes," said a statement from Ryan Steusloff, the Graves campaign spokesman.
There's no evidence Barnes was involved in the piece.
She has been on the magazine's cover.

Satirical column in Camp
The Sam Graves campaign is taking this satirical column way too seriously. The column "Ask Francine" is written in the hand of an ultra conservative and wealthy fictional character and there is absolutely no attack being made, nor does the columnist represent any politician. It's only satire. The Graves campaign has issued false attacks on Kay Barnes and this column is simply responding in a humorous manner to those false attacks of the Graves campaign, and used my magazine in their campaign commercials. Previous columns of Francine have made satirical comments on general interest on many other subjects before and this is no different.
