John McCain, as we ALL knows, puts country first. He is not afraid to challenge entrenched interests in his party. So we learn in the NY Times article:

John McCain, who is saying he is a reformer and not afraid to challenge his party over principle, abandoned the person he wanted and went with someone about as opposite as you can get from his preferred choice.

Our country can't afford such erratic decision-making in the White House.

In Alaska for Governor Palin.

This was a homerun for the Senator, and the base of our party. A pro life mom who walks the walk as well as talking the talk.

I love the left quoting the NY Times as fact based. Remember the susupicion of an affair story about McCain? Even the staff of the Times called it bad reporting.

Keep on attacking this woman, and see what it gets you. Hint: It won't be the Presidency.

McCain made the most important decision of his candidacy based upon a single 15-minute meeting and a single 5-minute phone conversation. That's how much importance he places on choosing someone to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.

McDonald's and Wal-Mart screen their employees in a more rigorous manner than McCain picked his VP.

McCain will stick by Palin no matter how bad the news gets. He knows if he dumped her now he'd lose the election outright. The "teenage pregnancy is a family value" crowd would bolt, and the rest of us would look at it as a massive flip-flop.

So Palin stays. Seeing how bad the news is for the McCain/Palin ticket, I can't wait to see what else comes up. Palin offering tacit approval to a secessionist group is only the beginning. And there's the debate to look forward to.

The McCain-Palin campaign said the daughter made the decision on her own to carry the baby to term.

I respect that decision. It is hers to make.

However, McCain and Palin have a public position on abortion which would not make that a decision for all the other women in America. They want to recriminalize abortion.

McCain and Palin are pro-choice for their daughters and anti-choice for all the other daughters in America. I don't like that hypocrisy. Do you?

But hey that's no big deal, just pro choice. It is interesting to note that the Governor chose to deliver a baby with Downs. I would say she walks the walk of pro life, good for her.

If the left really wants to have this battle over abortion let it happen. Howver, their nominess, the Messiah seems to run from the issue at every opportunity. Except to say he does not want to have one of his daughters "penalized" with a baby.

Its legitimate concern for a young women who is now in a spot light. I appreciate her choice to keep the baby. My (Now) wife and I were in a very similar position not so long ago. I know that if I would have had to deal with all the stress and saw my face on tv during the whole process it would have been terrible. People have a choice she made hers and I respect it. My heart goes out to the young women this is more then she should be ask to handle. But life is like this and I wish her the best.

No one is contradicting one of the major facts: McCain wanted Lieberman but he was told the convention would go crazy so he chose Palin.

The now public vetting process may reveal some new problems, but I see pletny already to really scare me. Tucker Bounds was clowned by Campbell Brown over Palin's foreign policy experience. He couldn't even name one deciscion she made commanding the mighty Alaskan National Guard.

I know the GOPers think Obama is too young, and that is a different debate. But I have no idea how even a Republican could be comforted by the thought of Palin stepping in as President.

I have noted that Palin supports the decision her daughter has made. McCain in 2000 answered a question about a daughter being pregnant. He said he would support the decision she would make.

However, Republicans, McCain, Palin and you propose to outlaw all abortions. So, McCain and Palin support the decision their daughters have made/would make, but would deny all other daughters the right to make any decision.

Drum, the choice the Palin's referred too was between adoption (not abortion) or keeping the child. It was not a choice between life and death.

If Lieberman was his number one choice and Country First is how he makes decision, why didn't he choose his number one choice?

My, my, my ... Sarah Palin is quite the little authoritarian, isn't she? She's got all the answers for everyone else and their families, but in practice they don't work out so well. (See her own family.)

Palin's pick as VP speaks volumes about McCain. Is he a moderate? No, he's a far-right conservative thug. Look who he picked for VP, a far-right conservative thug.

Was this decision made after due deliberation? Nope. McCain made an important decision in less time than it takes most people what to get on their pizza.

Is Sarah Palin "mainstream"? Oh hell no. The vast majority of the American people support abortion rights. An increasing number of people want to see the government give the same recognition to gays and lesbians as to straight people. And as we've seen in Kansas over and over again, the majority of voters aren't ready to ditch solid proven science for creationism.

Palin is a blunder of epic proportions.

Those were McCain's first two choices. Either would have been a superior choice. Despite Ridge's tenure at the White House, I think he would have been tough to beat.

However, McCain lacks the intestinal fortitude to tell his party to take a hike on decisions like this. He wanted Ridge or Lieberman. He got Sarah Palin.

If McCain can't stand up to his own party, how will he stand up for America?
