There is no longer any such thing as a private conversation. For better or worse, everyone has to realize that anything they say at any time can be put on the internet for everyone to see.

When former Democratic National Committee chairman Dan Fowler opined to Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) during a flight from Denver to North Carolina last Friday that Hurricane Gustav’s expected devastation of New Orleans during the Republicans National convention is a sign God favors Democrats, he once again demonstrated that Democrats are much more interested in winning an election than the welfare of Americans.

Then on Sunday, Fowler tried to excuse his comments by telling The Associated Press that he was making fun of comments made by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, said the attacks were God's punishment for abortion, homosexuality and other sins. The entire exchange was captured and is posted all over the Internet and nowhere during the exchange is Falwell mentioned. This was a transparent after the fact effort to excuse his inappropriate and embarrassing gaffe and no one other than maybe Michael Moore would believe him. It’s bad enough that Fowler doesn’t think before he speaks but why can’t he just own up to his error in judgment and apologize rather than lying about it? The lying tells more about Mr. Fowler's lack of character and class than the original gaffe.
