TOPEKA | Who says Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has no foreign policy experience? Maybe not policy experience, but definitely the foreign part. In the past few years, she's been to Middle East, China, Mexico City, Turkey, even Philadelphia - promoting the state's industries, greeting Kansas troops in the gulf, or hobnobbing with the Bilderbergers in Istanbul.

This week it's Britain, where Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is promoting the state’s aviation industry and learning how an English university has championed the bioscience industry.

Sebelius, state Secretary of Commerce David Kerr and leaders of the state’s aviation industry will attend the Farnborough International Air Show, one of the largest such industry gatherings in the world. Held every other year just outside London, the air show brings together 1,500 different aviation companies from 35 nations. More than $42 billion in business was done during the 2006 show.

Sebelius and University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway will also visit the University of Nottingham to learn about the school’s successes in partnering science researchers with private enterprise. Sebelius will also meet with leaders of OncImmune, a British lifesciences company that recently established its North American headquarters in Lenexa.

This past weekend, Sebelius was in Philadelphia attending the National Governor’s Association summer meeting.
