Charlie WheelerCharlie WheelerCharlie Wheeler, the former Kansas City mayor and state senator, will be on the August ballot for state treasurer after all.

Wheeler, 81, and more than a dozen other candidates were removed from the ballot last month for not filing personal financial disclosure forms.

But  a Cole County judge threw out the case, and Wheeler's name is back on the list of Democratic contenders for state treasurer.

"It's great," Wheeler told Prime Buzz today. "I always feel better when I'm competing."

Thing is, geography may give Wheeler a shot at the Democratic nomination. The other three candidates all hail from the St. Louis area: Arnold Mayor Mark Powell, Andria Simckes from Creve Coeur and State Rep. Clint Zweifel of Florissant.

There's a chance that those three could split the St. Louis area vote and swing the race to the lone Kansas City contender.

"I’ve got a nice advantage from the standpoint that I thnk there’ll be an opportunity to point out that western Missouri doesn’t get much representation in Jefferson City," Wheeler said.

By the way, Wheeler isn't shying away from the age issue on the campaign trail where he compares himself to 71-year-old John McCain.

"I say he’s too old to be the president because the president has such an awesome responsibility," Wheeler said. "But for a state treasurer we need to get some experience in the state Capitol, someone who can go back and quote the adventures of Harry Truman and add a little wisdom to the system.”
