DES MOINES, Iowa | Rep. Bruce Braley of Iowa plans to throw his support behind Barack Obama on Wednesday.

Braley spokesman Jeff Giertz said he will endorse the Illinois senator for president during an afternoon conference call.

Braley was an early and ardent backer of Democrat John Edwards, but he had remained uncommitted since Edwards dropped out of the race at the end of January.

Braley is a superdelegate and his endorsement will further add to Obama’s lead in delegates in the race against Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Giertz said Braley made his decision after seeing the overwhelming support for Obama in district conventions last weekend in his 1st District in eastern Iowa.
