Update at 5 p.m.
U.S. Rep. Sam Graves wants to help out Morgan Brown, a North Platte School District spelling bee winner, barred from the national contest due to her school filing improper paperwork.
Graves spokesman Jason Klindt said that Graves plans to call this afternoon and voice his concerns to Paige Kimble, director of the 2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee finals and urge her to reinstate Morgan.
"In addition, he is looking into other options to press the group into allowing Morgan to participate. He believes that she should be allowed to participate like the hundreds of other students whose schools were allowed to fix the technicality."
House is not in session so Graves can't take the issue to the floor this week.
(Klindt says Graves has been unable to reach Kimble despite repeated messages).
Repeated attempts to reach Steve Glorioso, spokesman for Graves' general election opponent, Kay Barnes, have been unsuccessful this weekend and this morning.
We will update you after Graves' conversation with Kimble and if the Barnes camp makes a statement.
Glorioso said mid-afternoon that something from the Barnes camp would be coming but Prime Buzz has yet to receive it.

What a nitwit she is.
Good for Mr. Graves!
Can't Paige Kimball see that if Morgan and the other affected children are not allowed to compete, the "winner" of this year's spelling bee will forever have an "asterisk" beside their name in the record books? Winning such an event would be like taking the gold in an Olympics that was boycotted by some nations; the "winner" will not have won against a field of all worthy competitors.
If she doesn't reverse her horrible decision, Kimball will be plowing through the playing field, not leveling it.
