Slattery reconsidering decision not to challenge Roberts

Kansans should be reminded that Pat Roberts let the Boeing deal slip away.

He backed out once already. Will he be serious this time? Interesting if you look at the timing- the first time, he backed out two weeks before Greg Orman jumped in. Now, he's back in the race. Could it be that Washington is forcing him to hold a place and be a candidate? I wonder what they've promised him for being the sacrificial lamb...

Roberts didn't lose the Boeing deal. Roberts, Brownback and Democrat Darlings Murray and Cantwell all had a stake in the deal. Roberts seems to be the only one fighting for it.

But Kansas didn't elect Murray or Cantwell now did they?

Brownback has been absent from the Senate for too long, and Roberts apparently has no pull with a Republican White House. Unfortunately, it cost Kansans jobs.

people are not doing their jobs as the people see fit, then it is way past time to get qualified people to run for office and get some of these other yahoos OUT OF OFFICE. The game is in the hands of the PEOPLE. You get the government you deserve and to me it certainly is a time for apathy to be taking a back seat.

certainly proved not worth much when the people of Gardner, Ks. asked him for help in fighting the BNSF intermodal logistics park a couple of years ago. He was giving us some lip service and then said there wasn't much he could do for us. A few weeks later I look on the FIC website and note that BNSF had just come thru with another nice donation for him. I didn't have much use for Roberts before that and I certainly have no use for him now.

He’d like clarity on the presidential race – good luck, Jim. This is going to go down to the wire. But I can understand why he’s not anxious to have Obama on his ticket. Obama won’t even accept a campaign contribution from a multi-millionaire lobbyist like Jim Slattery. Slattery is basically everything Obama is against. Kind of hard to ride the coattails when the presidential nominee is bashing Slattery’s kind at every turn. He better hope Hillary can turn it around with Pennsylvania. But that’s 7 weeks away.

Well Slattery is definitely a Hillary guy. Go look at his campaign contributions. He was in Clinton-land early. But Hillary isn’t popular in Kansas so I don’t know why Jim Slattery thinks she can help him.

Ok, technically speaking that doesn't state he won't CAMPAIGN for a federal lobbyist like Slattery -- but what a double standard that will be for the Dems in Kansas. No wonder Slattery wants "clarity." If Obama wins the nomination, Slattery would be ridiculed. The Republicans are going to eat this up if that's the dynamic duo.

What's Slattery's story? Lobbyist and lawyer? Is he even from Kansas?

Yeah – that’s what Jim is going to fight. He was a congressman for a few years representing Wichita and then he ran for governor. He lost BIG to Bill Graves and since then he’s lived in Washington, DC as a big lobbyist. He hasn’t been around Kansas since the 90s.

I remember Jim Slattery well. And it will only take the Pat Roberts folks about five minutes to find all his old votes on immigration. He voted pro-amnesty. It’s over right there. Jim’s totally out of touch.

Maybe Hillary promised him an ambassadorship if he runs and loses. Slattery wants something for being the sacrificial lamb.

Roberts’ media consultants and pollster are the same ones that helped Bill Graves defeat Slattery in 1994. It won’t cost them much to do the research. Apparently there’s a student loan issue that could come back to haunt Slattery. And all those checks he bounced in the House Bank scandal. And Slattery is from the second district, not Wichita.

I wonder if Roberts will ask him to release his tax returns like Obama is asking Hillary to release him. If he’s done so well as a lobbyist, that will be some interesting reading.

Slattery was close to Bill Clinton. That where this is coming from. Jim Slattery was one of Bill’s advisers during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

And who are Slattery’s clients. With a law firm that big and powerful, there’s got to be a lot right there to exploit. Wonder what he was willing to support when he was getting paid $500 an hour.

The other big thing Jim is going to have to explain is his passion for Iran. I’ve talked to Slattery a couple of times in the last few years. He thinks the U.S. can be friends with Iran?! He’s been working with some think tank/religious organization. I’m not going to say the goals aren’t lofty for some liberal do-gooder – but it’s not going to be a popular position in the Congress or in Kansas. It’s back to the fact that Jim is totally out of touch.

Maybe Hillary will make him our first Ambassador to Iran!

That’s probably closer to the truth than you think it is. He knows he can’t beat Roberts in this thing. He’s got some ulterior motive. Maybe UN Ambassador? What a joke.

I hear Slattery's out there making calls again. The guy really wants to run. Problem is, he cannot find any state support. All the friends from past campaigns are telling him not to run, just like they did last fall. Roberts has all the powers-that-be in Johnson County locked up and Slattery doesn't stand a chance out west. He better be smart enough to know that all the money from the Schumer cronies in New York and LA won't make a difference if he's got no support in the state.

Yawn, the Dems keep floating this rumor that Jim might run but it won't happen. All it's doing is helping Roberts raise more money because he can tell his supporters there's a potential opponent out there. If Slattery's making calls, all he's going to discover is that a majority of people don't remember him and if they do, they remember him as the guy who lost to Graves.
