Some local government junkies were disappointed today when they were unable to tune in this morning’s Johnson County commission meeting from the comfort of their own home televisions.
Time Warner cable subscribers were unable to find the commission meeting on Channel 2 after technical and equipment glitches blocked the public access signal from being aired, county officials said. Time Warner covers much of northern and central Johnson County.
But Comcast Channel 7 in Olathe carried the signal, as did the county’s Web site.
The county spent more than $650,000 on technology and remodeling in an effort to better communicate with residents and become more transparent in showing the public how decisions are made. The idea has been kicked around for at least three years.
The problems are expected to be worked out by next week’s meeting.

For the most part it was great!!!!!
Started out trying to get it on Time Warner Channel 2 and it wasn't there. Then tried to get it thru the Commissioners website and it wouldn't come up. I then called the Commissioner's office and they said they were having some problems. A few minutes later it was up on the County's website. Overall I was very pleased - it is something I have wanted for a long time.
The first part of the meeting there were people addressing the board and I could see them do this, however, later in the afternoon when County staff members were making presentations I could not see the individuals which I wish they would change.
I was certainly upset with the handling of the Licausi warehouse issue since it seems the Commissioners are ready to totally ignore the truck traffic and pollution issues but they sent it back to the local zoning board so I think they can politic some more on this project. I believe they know in their hearts what they should do, deny request for change of zoning, but getting them to do the right thing as our world now exists is like pulling teeth as I have mentioned before with respect to lots of elected officials.
The broadcast of these meetings has been needed for some time - I know I will be spending my Thursdays tuning in if at all possible.
