Hillary Clinton has done it. So has Barack Obama. And now Claire McCaskill is headed to Minnesota to give the keynote address at the state’s Humphrey Day Dinner.
Missouri’s junior Democratic senator will speak at the biggest yearly gathering of Minnesota Democrats, or DFLers as they’re called, at the Humphrey Day Dinner set for March 15 at the Minneapolis Hilton Hotel.
The dinner is named in honor of Hubert Humphrey, the former Democratic vice president who also served as a senator from Minnesota and mayor of Minneapolis. Last year’s keynote speaker was Iowa Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin.
McCaskill was invited by Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
“Senator McCaskill is a wonderful friend and colleague,” said Klobuchar. “As freshmen, we were sent to Washington with a mandate for change, including ethics reform and middle-class opportunity.”
Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez called McCaskill “a senator in the tradition of Hubert Humphrey — she brings a no-nonsense Midwestern style of accountability and problem-solving to our nation’s capital. We are pleased that she will join us March 15."
A ticket to the dinner costs $125.
